Self Portrait

I am a wide-eyed fool
Plunge me into an abyss
Ignoring my spark, I  search for an outer light
I find comfort in your pity

When you whisper my name
Does it draw you a smile
What have I done
Efforts tossed in the wind

I cannot paint you a picture
But a self-portrait, I can
A portrait painted with words
There are no lines to stay within

Give me your warm words
To decorate my blank wall
Nothing there to hang
So I hang on to your words

Morphed into a book
Read yourself to understand yourself
A self-portrait painted by the tongue
Paint me a portrait I can recognize

Pity the ones who cannot read
Eyes focused on others
You missed your scene
Tell me, how does the story end
